About

Established in 1993, the Department of Textile Engineering is a leading academic and research center dedicated to advancing textile science, materials engineering, and industrial innovation. The undergraduate program is accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) framework and is supported by postgraduate programs including Master of Engineering (M.E.) and PhD, fostering advanced research and technological development.

Textiles remain the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, contributing more than half of the country’s exports and supporting a large portion of the manufacturing workforce. The department plays an important role in preparing engineers capable of strengthening this sector through innovation, technology adoption, and sustainable manufacturing practices.

Program Philosophy

The program follows a product-centric approach to textile engineering where students learn to design and engineer textile products by integrating fibers, yarns, fabric structures, processing technologies, and performance requirements. Through studio-based product development, artificial intelligence–enabled digital tools, and modern engineering practices, students develop the ability to translate materials and processes into innovative textile solutions. This philosophy promotes innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership, preparing graduates to contribute to industrial advancement and emerging textile technologies.

The curriculum aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing responsible production, sustainable materials, innovation, and resource-efficient technologies.

Vision of the Department

To become a leading center of excellence in textile engineering education, research, and innovation by advancing product-centric textile technologies, sustainable materials, digital transformation, and entrepreneurial thinking to drive industrial leadership and global competitiveness.

Mission of the program

The B.E. Textile Engineering program aims to deliver internationally benchmarked education in textile materials, product engineering and sustainable processing to develop competent professionals equipped with technical expertise, ethical responsibility, innovation capacity and leadership skills to serve industry and society.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

  • PEO-1 (Technical Competence): Graduates will apply textile engineering knowledge and problem-solving skills to design, optimize and manage textile materials, processes, and products in professional industrial environments.
  • PEO-2 (Responsible Professional Practice): Graduates will demonstrate ethical, sustainable, and socially responsible engineering practices while working effectively in multidisciplinary and diverse professional teams.
  • PEO-3 (Growth & Leadership): Graduates will pursue lifelong learning, innovation and leadership to adapt to emerging technologies and contribute to the advancement of textile engineering and society.

Chairman Message

Since its establishment in 1993, the Department has remained committed to excellence in education, research, innovation, and industrial engagement. Over the years, we have developed a strong reputation for producing competent engineers who contribute significantly to Pakistan's textile sector and beyond.

As the backbone of Pakistan's economy, the textile industry continues to evolve through advancements in materials, manufacturing technologies, digitalization, sustainability, and product innovation. In response to these emerging challenges and opportunities, our department has adopted a product-centric approach to textile engineering education, enabling students to integrate materials, processes, design thinking, and modern engineering tools to develop innovative textile solutions.

Our undergraduate program is accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) under the Outcome-Based Education framework, while our postgraduate programs provide opportunities for advanced research and knowledge creation. Through modern laboratories, industry collaborations, research projects, and entrepreneurship initiatives, we strive to cultivate technical competence, professional ethics, leadership, and lifelong learning among our graduates.

The department is actively engaged in emerging areas including sustainable materials, technical textiles, smart textiles, advanced manufacturing, and digital transformation. We are committed to fostering an environment that encourages creativity, critical thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovation.

Whether you are a prospective student, researcher, industry partner, alumnus, or visitor, I invite you to explore the opportunities available within our department and become part of our journey toward shaping the future of textile engineering.
