AI for Energy and Sustainability

Goals

Our VIP team, AI for Energy and Sustainability, is dedicated to harnessing artificial intelligence to enhance energy efficiency, optimize resource management, and promote sustainable energy practices. We aim to develop intelligent systems that monitor energy consumption, predict demand, and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources. Through the application of AI and machine learning techniques, we strive to create actionable insights that empower individuals and organizations to make informed decisions about energy use and sustainability.

 Issues Involved and Addressed

Our projects focus on critical challenges such as unreliable energy supply, high energy costs, and the integration of renewable energy sources into the national grid. The country faces significant issues related to energy inefficiency, reliance on fossil fuels, and increasing energy demand driven by urbanization and population growth. Our work leverages data-driven approaches to address these challenges by optimizing energy systems, enhancing grid management, and improving energy consumption forecasting. We aim to support policymakers, energy providers, and consumers in making informed decisions that lead to a more sustainable and resilient energy landscape.

 SDGs Project Supports

Our projects align with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  1. SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy: Promoting access to reliable and sustainable energy through optimized consumption and renewable integration.
  2. SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Fostering resilient infrastructure and sustainable industrialization via innovative technologies.
  3. SDG 13: Climate Action: Enhancing energy efficiency and promoting renewable sources to reduce emissions and improve climate resilience.

Artificial Intelligence for Mental Health and Wellbeing

Goals

Our VIP leverages artificial intelligence to explore and improve both mental health and general wellbeing on campus and beyond through hands-on, accessible projects. We will develop AI-driven models to detect signs of emotional distress and promote timely interventions while also examining how factors like ambient conditions and online interactions influence overall wellbeing. In doing so, we will create a flexible, anonymized data collection platform that lays the foundation for current projects and future research.

 Issues Involved and Addressed

Our projects focus on two key challenges: recognizing early signs of mental health struggles and understanding how our environment influences overall wellbeing. Many people face stress and anxiety without realizing they need help, and our work uses data to identify early warning signs. We also explore how everyday conditions -- like classroom lighting, temperature, or even online interactions -- can impact mood and performance. The goal is to generate simple, actionable insights that lead to healthier, more supportive learning and living environments both on campus and in the broader community.

 SDGs Project Supports

Our projects align with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  1. SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being: Promoting mental health awareness and developing AI-driven interventions to support emotional wellbeing.
  2. SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities: Addressing disparities in mental health support and ensuring equitable access to wellbeing resources for all individuals.
  3. SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions: Enhancing community resilience and promoting supportive environments through data-driven insights into mental health.
